[su_spoiler title=”DAY 1: Welcome to Split, Croatia”]
Individual journey to Split. Check-in on board starts between 2 and 2:30 pm at Split harbor. At about 4:30 pm, a guided city tour offers us the chance to see inside the former Palace of Emperor Diocletian and to learn about its transformation into the city it has become. The boat will spend the night in Split, offering us an opportunity to experience Split’s lively nightlife.
Meals on board start with Dinner on Day 1.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”DAY 2: Split – Brač Island: Pučišća – Bol – Hvar Island: Jelsa (aprx. 14 mi./23 km)”]
We cruise to the island of Brač, famous for its radiant, precious limestone that was, among others, used for the White House in Washington and in the construction of the German Reichstag building in Berlin. Once we have arrived on Brač we cycle from the picturesque harbor town of Pučišća, known internationally for its stone masonry college, across the island to Bol. Close by lies the famous ‚Golden Horn‘, a popular Croatian beach famous for its unique shape. Keen swimmers can take a swim here before continuing on by boat to Jelsa on the island of Hvar.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”DAY 3: Hvar Island: Jelsa – Stari Grad – Hvar – Korčula Island: Vela Luka (aprx. 22 mi./35 km)”]
Today’s we’ll cycle to Stari Grad and later on to the opposite side of the Island of Hvar. After a short break, our cycle tour leads us through lavender fields and small villages until we get to the island’s capital. Make use of the time and go for a little stroll through the city of Hvar before boarding the boat. Standing on the magnificent Renaissance Square you can enjoy a view up to the Spanish fortress towering high above the city. Dinner on board and overnight stay in the sheltered bay of Vela Luka on the Island of Korčula, regarded as one of the most beautiful islands in Dalmatia.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”DAY 4: Korčula Island: Vela Luka – Korčula town (aprx. 37.5 mi./60 km)”]
Today’s cycle tour leads us across the charming island of Korčula all the way to Korčula city. A mild Mediterranean climate and a broad variety of different landscapes await us here. Take your time, and remember to take a break to enjoy the view over the deep blue sea and neighboring islands. The Picturesque town of Korčula with it’s fishbone alleyways competes with Venice for the honor of being the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”DAY 5: Lastovo Island – Mljet Island (aprx. 17.5 mi./28 km)”]
And off we go! A morning crossing takes us to the beautiful Island of Lastovo. The island is one of the smaller inhabited islands in the Adriatic Sea. The Emperor Augustus appreciated the mild climate, and in Roman times it was even named “Augusta Insula” after him. The population of just over 800 still lives mainly from fishing in the waters rich in fish, agriculture and viticulture. Today’s cycle tour takes us around the beautiful island. The gold-coloured white wine “Marastina”, known even beyond Croatia’s borders, is grown here. We enjoy a late lunch on board while cruising towards our destination of Pomena on the Island of Mljet.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”DAY 6: Mljet Island (aprx. 17.5 mi./28 km)”]
From Pomena on Mljet we cycle across the green and forested island – known as the honey island. With 70 % of its landmass covered by woodland, it is the most forested island in the Mediterranean region. Homer mentioned this lovely island in his epic poem “Odyssey.” He made it a home for the Nymph Calypso and the legendary Greek king Odysseus, who could not resist Calypso and stayed on Mljet for seven years. Our boat will wait for us in Sobra from where we will cruise to the island of Šipan in the afternoon.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”DAY 7: Šipan Island – Dubrovnik (aprx. 7 mi./11 km)”]
Šipan is the largest of the Elaphiti Islands. Accompanied by your tour guide a pleasant cycle trip takes us past villas with exotic gardens and through a fertile valley framed by a range of limestone hills. Returning to the boat we enjoy our last crossing after an adventurous week. After arrival in Dubrovnik there is plenty of time to explore the UNESCO world Heritage city and to take part on a guided city tour. A cheerful evening meal on board the boat gives you time to celebrate the success of the week with fellow travelers and tour guides.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”DAY 8: Departure from Dubrvonik”]
After breakfast, disembarkation until 9 am and individual trip home or extended stay in Croatia.
Meals on board end with breakfast on Day 8.

Your Host: Traveling Jackie
You probably know me! If you don’t, read more about me here. I first traveled Croatia by boat in 2015 and it BLEW MY MIND in the best way. I’ve been itching to go back ever since, and I finally am this October with BikeTours.com to scope out riding in style, which is what WE get to do together next September!
Tour Partner: BikeTours.com
I have known Jim Johnson, the president of BikeTours.com, for four years now, and I am a proud ambassador for their team. They have changed my life (for the better!) by introducing me to the magic of cycle touring. They are celebrating 15 years in business in 2019, and their local partners are carefully vetted; we are in good hands! Read more about BikeTours.com here, and read about my personal experiences with them here.

“I randomly agreed to join Jackie on a bike trip in Switzerland, without really knowing what I was getting myself into. Turns out, bike trips are the best! Slow enough that your chosen destination isn’t whizzing by you at 70 mph, but fast enough that you get to see a ton. I’m addicted now and can’t wait for another bike tour!” – Carley (pictured above)
“BEST TRIP EVER!!!! It was the most amazing adventure! The guides were incredible – so willing to help in whatever way they could. They were informative and inspiring, and the crew attended to our every need. The food was wonderful.” – Pomm (BikeTours.com Croatia Bike & Boat participant)
“Way Beyond Expectations! Our bike and boat trip in Croatia was outstanding. The guides were the best! They kept us laughing with their congenial and relaxed manner, but included many extra details about the country, customs, and culture. They went over the top to make sure we were having a good time. The food on the boat was also way beyond what I expected. The chef and staff were terrific. Each of the islands had a different flare and so I felt the variety of what we saw was very good.” – Jamie (BikeTours.com Croatia Bike & Boat participant)

Helmets: It is required to wear helmets on this tour. In order to guarantee optimum protection, we request that you bring your own, fitted helmet and – for your own safety – wear it on all bike tours. If you do not have your own helmet, you can purchase one from a sports store in Split. Due to hygiene and safety purposes, we do not have helmets available to rent.
Note: You don’t have to bike/rent a bike if you really just want to hang out on the boat, but I’m warning you now, you might (a) truly love the experience, even if you are afraid you won’t (watch this), and (b) suffer major FOMO if you opt out of biking and then see how much fun the rest of us are having, and then you’re stuck without a bike… make good choices, people. Airfare is not included. Group meets at the Pape Prvi boat in Dubrovnik (Week 1) or Split (Week 2) Harbor, you can walk from your hotel downtown or take a taxi to the harbor. Check-in for the boat and departure will be early afternoon Day 1 – plan to be in Dubrovnik or Split by about noon. Exact times and location will be delivered to travelers via email.
PLEASE NOTE that Week 1 itinerary starts in DUBROVNIK and ends in SPLIT.
PLEASE NOTE that Week 2 itinerary starts in SPLIT and ends in DUBROVNIK.
Plan your transportation accordingly.
Airports for this itinerary: Split, Croatia (SPU) and Dubrovnik, Croatia (DBV)
Here are several ways to get to and from Split and Dubrovnik, allow a half day to get from one to the other.
Budget/Planning tip – consider getting a roundtrip flight to Munich from the US, and a smaller flight to/from Split/Dubrovnik. I use Google Flights. Depending on where you come from, you could pay up to +/- $1200 for flights. Start looking early to get an idea of deals.
Taxi from Split airport to Split Harbor or to Split town should cost about 20-25 euro and should take about 10 minutes. You can try Uber as well.
I am happy to help with information for ongoing travel and/or to review your potential flight schedule for you to make sure you’re getting the right times, dates, and airports!

Rates are based on double occupancy. This does not mean you have to sign up with someone else, it just means you will be placed with a roommate whether you bring your own or not. If you do sign up with someone else, you may specify your roommate request when you book.
Single cabins unavailable.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT”]
The cycle tours require an advanced level of fitness. The tours will take us up to a height of 200 – 500 m above sea-level. The day tours (ranging from 7 miles up to 37 miles – see itinerary) will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs.
Don’t forget, we have e-bikes available! #magic
You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned cycle-tour.
For all of my trips, I specifically recommend (and use) nuun tablets for electrolyte replacement and hydration, compression socks for blood flow and fast recovery, and emergen-C packets to start each day with a boost of energy. These are in addition to physical fitness, they do NOT replace your training!

Tip: Avoid hard-sided suitcases, bring bags that can be stuffed into small spaces in your cabin!

[su_spoiler title=”NOTES”]
- Helmets Required: Helmet use is mandatory on all cycle tours. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well-fitted) helmet. If you’d rather not pack one, you can purchase a helmet in town, for example at Decathlon in Split before departure. Rental helmets are available in limited numbers (reservation requested upon booking).
- WiFi: While there is WiFi on board, the signal may not be very strong. Please don’t count on streaming anything!
- Outlets: Croatia uses Type C, rounded two-prong outlets like most of Europe. I always recommend bringing a mobile charger for those times when electricity is limited.
- Water: Drinkable water will be available throughout the entire trip. I’m a proud pledge of Travelers Against Plastic, and you are invited to give the planet a break by bringing a big reusable water bottle to refill whenever possible and help us avoid using single-use plastic bottles at all costs.

Yes, this is a bike tour!! I started going on bike tours in 2018 and I LOVE them, see all about my experiences here. Unsure how you feel about a bike tour? You’re not alone! I was super nervous before my first one, but this might make you feel better, and you might end up loving it, just like me.
We’ll go on organized rides twice a day most days, morning and afternoon, anywhere from 7-30+ total miles per day (see itinerary). Bikes available to be rented (in advance at the time of booking) include:
- 21-speed hybrid touring bike – $110 for the week, insurance included
- *Max 18 available (first-come, first-served): Electrically assisted bike (Cube Cross Hybrid Pro Allroad) – $240 for the week insurance included – what is an e-bike?
All above bike rentals will be equipped with an Ortlieb pannier (aka bike bag to hold your daily ride items!) at no additional charge.
Additional specifications on the Hybrid touring bikes:
- Inselhuepfen brand, aluminum frame
- 21-gear derailleur, Alivio
- Shimano V-brakes

Say yes to adventure. I haven’t led my groups astray yet… 😉

[/su_spoiler]

- Comfortable Selle Royal saddles
Please note that the bikes are deliberately not equipped with water bottle holders. There is room in the saddle bag to carry a bottle of water, along with everything else you need for the daily rides.
You may select your bike rental choice upon booking.

Say yes to adventure. I haven’t led my groups astray yet… 😉

[/su_spoiler]

Your Host: Traveling Jackie
You probably know me! If you don’t, read more about me here. I first traveled Croatia by boat in 2015 and it BLEW MY MIND in the best way.

[su_spoiler title=”FLIGHT & TRANSPORTATION”]

[su_spoiler title=”DAY 8: Departure from Dubrvonik”]

“Take a chance, ignore that voice in your head that fills you with doubt and let this new experience change you. The experiences you will have, friends you will make, food you will eat, laughs you will share, and challenges you will overcome far outweigh any negative thoughts or self doubt you had before you left.”

“[Her] genuine interest in getting to know all of us and making sure we were doing okay and enjoying, that is what made this trip so much more special than what I imagine traveling with a large tour company would be like. I would absolutely join her again. Her passion for travel and the areas she chooses to guide to makes it exciting and fun. And every outside organization (local guides, planned restaurants, our wonderful photographer) was outstanding as well. Jackie is a wonderful guide and a great person to travel with!”

[su_spoiler title=”FLIGHT & TRANSPORTATION”]

[su_spoiler title=”ROOMMATES/SINGLE OCCUPANCY”]
Rates are based on double occupancy. This does not mean you have to sign up with someone else, it just means you will be placed with a roommate whether you bring your own or not. If you do sign up with someone else, you may specify your roommate request when you book.
Single cabins unavailable.

[su_spoiler title=”PACKING”]
Everyone check out this first one:

Now for the ladies: The Blonde Abroad has a fab packing list for Croatia sailing
And gents: well… besides biking gear, a few pairs of shorts, shirts, and comfy shoes should do you fine 😉 check out the female list and adapt!
